noiz.gr expands to Bulgaria: the Greek musical-instrument marketplace opens noiz.bg

27 years, 180,000 visitors a month, and a first step outside Greece

noiz.gr, Greece's largest classifieds platform for used musical instruments and audio equipment, opened its Bulgarian edition, noiz.bg, on 30 September. It is the platform's first expansion outside Greece since it was founded in 1999 by Giannis Methenitis.

noiz.gr today has around 180,000 unique visitors a month, more than 130,000 registered members and more than 24,000 active listings. It covers music and audio only: guitars, amplifiers, pedals, keyboards, drums, wind and string instruments, studio and PA equipment, home audio and DJ gear, as well as listings from musicians looking for a band or bandmates. Listings are free for private sellers, there is no commission on sales, and buyers contact sellers directly on the platform, with a built-in offer system.

noiz.bg runs on the same technology with a separate database for Bulgaria, in Bulgarian and English. Its first week was covered by Капитал (Capital), Bulgaria's leading business publication.

“Bulgaria has a strong music scene and had no specialised place for used instruments, just as Greece didn't in 1999,” said Alexandros Kyrlis, founder of noiz. “We are starting with what works in Greece and adding whatever Bulgarian musicians ask us for. After Bulgaria, we are looking at other markets in the region.”

Features include natural-language search (“guitar under 300 euros in Thessaloniki”), offers and counter-offers with automatic expiry, saved searches with alerts, price history by model, and clear labelling of professional sellers as required by EU consumer protection law.

The company has been self-funded since it was founded, with no outside investors. Revenue comes from advertising, with Thomann, Europe's largest musical instrument retailer, as a long-standing advertiser, and from listing promotion.
