The SF-12 compression ribbon stereo microphone combines high quality audio performance with excellent stereo separation and imaging. It is a modern ribbon design with no sound diffraction or cavity resonance effects. An SF-12 is actually two matched ribbon microphones mounted one above the other; each aimed 45 degrees off center in the classic Blumlein configuration. Frequency response is excellent regardless of the angle of the sound hitting the ribbons and off-axis coloration is negligible.

The SF-12 uses two 1.8 micron ribbons, each weighing about 1/3 milligram, and produces excellent transient response. The two ribbon transducers are magnet/pole piece structures that produce a wide, uniform frequency response with no significant peaks or dips. The case is iron ingot and is part of the magnetic return circuit, an efficient low leakage flux system that accounts for the relatively high sensitivity in a liner package. The SF-12's extension cable comes with a Y-adapter that is split into separate male 3-pin XLR connectors marked "Upper" and "Lower", for the upper and lower capsule of the microphone (when held vertically).
