The Focal SM9 is an active 3‑way (or switchable 2‑way) studio monitor designed for professional mixing, mastering and critical listening. It combines powerful internal amplification with high‑quality driver design to deliver extremely wide frequency response, detailed midrange and deep bass — making it suitable for both small‑ and large‑scale audio production environments.
Technical & configuration details:
Drivers: 1" pure Beryllium inverted‑dome tweeter (HF), 6.5" Focal “W” composite cone midrange driver (MF), 8" Focal “W” composite cone low-frequency driver (LF), plus an 11" Focal “W” composite passive radiator for extended bass response.

Controls & adjustment: On‑board equalization/tilt — including low‑frequency shelving (30–250 Hz), high‑frequency shelving (4.5 kHz–40 kHz), as well as selectable high-pass crossover (full‑range, 45/60/90 Hz), low‑, low‑mid and mid‑band EQ (at 50 Hz, 160 Hz, 1 kHz). Also a “Focus” mode switch for toggling 2‑way vs 3‑way operation.

Use‑cases & practical considerations:
Because of its wide frequency response and high SPL capability, SM9 is ideal for mixing and mastering audio where accurate, full‑range monitoring is required — from deep sub‑bass to extended high frequencies.
The dual‑mode (3‑way / 2‑way) design is useful to simulate how mixes will translate on
