Description
Extremely rare original SML ( Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire) Gold Medal alto saxophone, French manufacture, serial number 20731, year of manufacture 1952-53. This is a very rare collector's instrument of high quality and belongs to one of the most recognized and respected saxophone series of the 20th century. The historic SML (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire) was one of the most important French wind instrument companies of the 20th century, based in Paris.
The SML Gold Medal saxophones, made mainly in the 1950s and 1960s, especially the first Gold Medal series (as well as the Gold Medal II) are considered today to be top instruments, known for: -excellent workmanship -the rich, warm and full sound with a strong personal "vintage" character that is highly appreciated by professional classical and jazz saxophonists.
Many professionals and collectors place them in the same quality category as Selmer saxophones of the same period (also known as "Selmer killer"), and their value is steadily increasing with time, as they are very rare finds in the field of vintage saxophones, especially in Europe.
The saxophone was purchased in Switzerland about 25 years ago and was practically never played, as it was part of a large collection. It is in excellent aesthetic and structural condition with no dents or structural problems except for the known subtle signs of use on the bell. It comes with the original neck, original case and has the original silver plate, no relaquer finish, which significantly increases its collector's value.
It needs a change of tops and tuning to be fully functional, a fact that has been fully taken into account in the price and is sold at an affordable price as a collector's item. 🎷 Ideal for collectors and vintage instrument connoisseurs or a musician who wants a top, very rare professional saxophone at a student's price. Delivered in Athens, but can also be shipped
