Thursday night rant
My beloved 73’ with DiMarzio HS3 on the neck position, original Fender pickup in the middle and HS2 in the bridge. This setup was recommended by no other than Eric Johnson in 1984. I like this setup a lot. No complaint. I’ve done tons of gig with this guitar. With my new Deluxe Reverb and the new amp modeling technology (such as Helix) has changed may way of thinking. My 79’ (not in the picture) sounds great with the original pickups. The cleanest of the single coil pickups is so much better than my 73. Lesson: Leave your vintage guitar the way it is. If you want to get something more modern make your own guitar, or buy a new Fender. The new Fender Custom are fantastic.
