“Giving a whole new twist to the concept of Latin and Greek, we heard Ed and Alex trading as Greek Brothers, mashing up the genres in the company of Chilean artist Danico. Sotomayor is their tribute to nineties Olympic high jump legend, blending the boys’ bouzoukis with an irresistibly Cuban state of mind”
Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Introducing Mixtape 11th July
Released across all platforms on August 12th, “Sotomayor” sees Greek Brothers team up with Chilean pop artist Dánico for a Latin infused, nineties throwback that combines both English and Spanish lyrics. The collaboration has led to a surprising stylistic change for Greek Brothers, who are more commonly known for more melancholic and folk sounds.
Classic Latin horns, montuno piano and lively percussion have been coupled with the trademark Greek Brothers bouzouki to create a strong summer vibe that is unashamedly retro in it’s overall sound.
The song is a romanticised homage to Cuba and all it’s stereotypes for those that have never visited, but still feel a connection to the place and a longing for a different way of life. The title, “Sotomayor” pays tribute to nineties sporting legend Javier Sotomayor who still holds the world record for the men's high jump.
The song release will be supported by a music video which will premiere on August 15th on YouTube, with further single releases scheduled for the Autumn.
