Description
custom Neal Moser Custom V, often informally referred to by collectors as a “Batwing V” or “Moser V with claw cutouts.”
Construction
• Neck: Neck-through-body
• Body wings: korina
• Finish: High-gloss black with red bevel accents (custom paint)
Neck / Fretboard
• Fretboard: Ebony (very consistent with the look + Moser preference)
• Frets: 24 jumbo frets
• Scale length: ~25.5" (occasionally 24.75", but this is the longer scale layout)
• Inlays: Minimal / none
Electronics
• Pickups:
o Bridge: Rockfield humbucker
o Neck: Likely Rockfield
• Controls:
o 1 volume
o 1 tone
o 1 additional control
o 3-way toggle switch
Hardware
• Bridge: Tune-o-matic style with string-through body
• Tuners: Not shown, but typically locking tuners on these builds
• Knobs: Speed knobs (black)
Design Elements (very Moser-specific)
• Deep beveled contours
• Sculpted lower “claw” cutaways (almost ergonomic + aesthetic hybrid)
• Aggressive, metal-oriented visual identity (similar spirit to BC Rich roots)
What makes this guitar special
Neal Moser was a key designer behind early B.C. Rich instruments, and this guitar clearly carries that DNA—but it’s more refined and custom.
That cutout design isn’t just cosmetic:
• Reduces weight slightly
• Changes resonance (subtly brighter/airier than a solid slab V)
• Makes it instantly identifiable as a boutique/custom piece
