Schaller "Golden 50 Super" bridge pick-up (vintage, 80's)

Schaller "Golden 50 Super" Pick-up. A combination of the 2-in-1 and Golden 50 models, utilises 12 Alnico magnets to deliver a rich, thick sound, increased sustain, extremely quick response and attack. Popular with jazz musicians. Four-conductor cables allow for multiple wiring options. B=bridge & N=neck.

Unlike the popular Golden 50, which was Schallers' version of a PAF, the Golden 50 Super is a bit different kind of humbucker, because it is more similar to the Seymour Duncan SH-3 StagMag, so it's basically a humbucker made of 2 real Strat single coils and therefore it also has 12 pieces of Alnico-5 cylinder magnets.

The differences to the SH-3 are that the Alnicos are not Alnico 2, which gives the SH-3 a bit more loose bass and rounder treble and more distinctive mids, but Alnico 5 magnets, allowing in single-coil or split-coil mode more authentic strat sounds, the pickup working as a humbucker results in a more intense bass and treble range, and more decent mids, while at the same time it reacts due to the individual magnets more similar to a single coil, only slightly louder and thicker sounding.

The Golden 50 Super was / is therefore quite popular with jazz guitarists and also archtops because it delivers a clear, clean, well articulated, dynamic sound.

But it is doing just as well on an HSS Power-Strat, if you like a more authentic Strat-bridge-sound, and still want to be able to change to some more humbucker -power, and -output.

As a humbucker, the Golden 50 Super works with approx. 12.8 kOhm resistance and 5.64 H inductance, with parallel wiring it has approx. 3.2 kOhm and 1.4 H, as single coil approx. 6.4 KOhm and approx. 2.8 H.
